A unique space in Cadiz marked by the harmonious combination of an austere lower chapel and a radiant upper chapel. Dating back to the 18th century, the Holy Cave conceals a complex history that can only be understood by going inside and following the symbolic path signposted by its central staircase. Downstairs, total austerity. Upstairs, a veritable throne room adorned with three magnificent paintings by Francisco de Goya.

It was in this church that Spain’s first constitution was signed. The church of San Felipe Neri is an emblematic location vital to an understanding of our country’s history. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1907, inside it has six chapels, each one unique and different from the others. The interior of the church features the jewel in the crown of what is a priceless piece of artistic-historic heritage: the last Immaculate Conception ever painted by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo.

Hospital de Mujeres

With its beautiful central courtyard and decorative tiles from Triana, this building is a living tribute to all the people in the past who worked so hard to make such a captivating place possible. Nestling in one corner of the monument is a magnificent little chapel where the visitor will be amazed by the stunning plasterwork on the ceilings and the Genoan sculptures. And waiting in majestic silence on one of the walls, like a hidden treasure, is a marvellous painting by El Greco.

A small, unique space with a history that takes us back to the medieval custom of placing religious images at the gates leading into cities. It is interesting to think that this quiet chapel that opens its doors to us today witnessed the Anglo-Dutch invasion of Cadiz in the late 16th century.

The walls of this majestic cathedral reflect over a hundred years of history. The “Holy Cross above the Sea” sits adjacent to the Atlantic, watching waves and years come and go. Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassical styles all come together in what is one of Spain’s most modern cathedrals.

Visit to the Top of the Cathedral Tower

Lovers of beauty will be enthralled by the bird’s eye view of Cadiz to be had from the top of the Cathedral tower. From this outstanding vantage point you can appreciate the size of the cathedral and also have a closer look at the stone sculptures and flame vases that crown it— with the Atlantic stretching away to the horizon in the background.

Casa de la Contaduría

A journey through the modern history of Cadiz in one of the city’s most remarkable buildings. Built in the 16th century, it houses twelve rooms, all different from one another. They include a Mudejar courtyard, a Romantic-style salon, and even a room containing the table at which the Cadiz Constitution was signed in 1812.

Cathedral Crypt

The crypt was built from oyster stone between 1730 and 1732. The sobriety of this chamber contrasts with the splendour of the marble architecture in the upper part of the cathedral.
The almost flat sail vaulting demonstrates the architectural expertise of master builder Vicente Acero, who used it show how, with the right calculations, the construction materials could bear the forces exerted on them. The result is one of the most emblematic spaces in Cadiz Catedral.
